Alien Creature
Alien Creature
After printing the Zombie and being introduced to 123d Sculpt+ I’d thought try my hand at it. I didn’t think I had the ability to design anything worth wild myself but it turns out the program was pretty easy to use. This was my first try using sculpt so I just started with the manikin head and tweaked away until I came up with this alien looking creature. (It was such a cool program unfortunately Autodesk discontinued it for some reason so it’s longer available for use.)
After sharing it on the 123app site an STL was available for download. I then was able to imported it into Simplify3D to slice the model from 3D printing.
A little while later I had a print of my design. (the concept of being able to design something and in a few hours have a physical model of it still blew me away.) I printed it out of eSUN light blue ABS and it is about 3″ inches tall.
Here’s my model after the supports have been removed. I was going to give it an acetone bath to smooth it out but I’ve never done that before and didn’t want to test it on this model after it came out so well.
I just gave it a quick rough up with some sand paper. I used this new ultra flexible sandpaper from 3M it’s flexible like a paper towel but tougher than normal sand paper you can really get into small spaces.
To finish it I started by giving it a base coat of a purple I mixed up. I couldn’t get close to the color I used in the program though, I never was good with color mixing.
After the base coat I used a slightly darker purple to highlight the low laying areas.
I had some flaws from either the support or the layer starting in the same spot every layer so I turned it into a wound. (Aliens have green blood right?)
While not as good as the Zomibie (that was a much better design) overall I’m happy with my first full designed character.
