410 Reloading Tools
410 Reloading Tools
These are my homemade 410 Reloading Tools that I made back in 2010. They are just like the old school Lee Loaders. I machined them from aluminum bar stock on my mini lathe using the TLAR method (That Looks About Right) using a 410 shell as a guide. (sorry I don’t have any specs for these.)
Just like the old Lee Loaders everything is done by hand with a hammer. From left to right we have, The Shell Holder, Depriming Tool, and the Crimper.
The first step of reloading a shell is to place the shell on the holder and deprime the shell using the depriming tool.
Next the Shell is inserted into the Holder and a new primer is started, then placing the holder on a flat surface the primer is seated by hitting the top of the holder.
Next I add a measured power load. (I haven’t made a pre-measured scoop yet.)
Then I place the wad in the shell…
…and then add a measured amount of shot.
The crimp is then started by hand.
Then after inserting the shell back in the holder the cone end of the crimp tool is inserted and given a few light taps with the hammer to continue to form the crimp
This is what it looks like after that.
Next, I use the flat end of the crimp tool to finish off the crimp.
Here is the finished product. The first shell on the left is a factory round, the middle is a once fired, and the shell on the right has been fired at least twice. While the finished product is not perfect they seem to work fine, although I only play around and shoot these out of a contender with a 10″ 45 Long Colt/410 combo barrel. As with most of my project these were just made to see if I could do it.
I do not sell these it was just made for my personal use.

Where can I get a cheap .410 re-loader? I have my own that I use tools from my toolbox, but don’t crimp the shell. Instead I pour melted candle wax on top of the shot. This is pretty safe as it never gets past the first layer of shot or anywhere near the powder or primer. This lets me use a hull more times as crimping each time wears out the hull much faster. It is slow but much cheaper than a box of store bought shells. I wish I knew how to do this when I hunted with only a .410 shotgun as a teen.
Try looking at Lee Precision… I know they make some hand press kits and they have a cheap plastic shot shell press (I used to use one for 12 gauge) but I’m not sure if they have a .410 versions.
Hello, do you sell these? If not do you know where can i get something similar?
I do not sell these but if you google “.410 hand loading tools” some pop up on eBay.
Cstome Loading .Com and Loading seem to be the cheapest on the Market
They are VERY similar much as Lee and his partner were at first.
If you are new to this type of loading Mike Beliveau three videos on loading with out a press.
X-Ring USA do good videos .
There are many more videos on the stick and nail way , which is the base of mostly all loading press/dies.
I rather prefer a length of plastic water pipe round the case to prime.
Take care and do NOT blow your fingers off

would US$ 32 be cheap enough?
There is some one on ebay who makes them.
Has two version of the kit . Much alike one of the I His kit works on a Lee Load-All
I think that one of the MIGHT work on a rifle/pistol press
I an think of buying one. Tell him my Name. If he get two interested might make the guicker

Ps Lee did make 410 LOADER once on a time . Look on ebay they are all second hand and 10g and410 are by far the most costly.
I owned on as a young teen in the seventies. Worked great! 410 shells are expensive and wish I still had mine.
Do you have any dimensions for this reloader??
I wouldn’t ming machining myself one.
Many thanks
Unfortunately… I do not have any dimensions available but everything was designed/machined around the actual shell.
How does one purchase this
Sorry these are not for sale… it was just made for my personal use.
The Survival Loaders work fine also.
