The Kraken Creature Bait

STL’s for this lure are available for purchase from Cults3d.com

This is a crazy creature bait that I designed just to try a sort of unique idea where a skirt is actually part of the injected bait and shot in a single injection.

Full Build Video

This is the initial design that was done in Fusion 360. The main body was done in the sculpt environment to have more of an organic body compared to any other creature bait on the market.

This was a quick hard body print to get a feel for the design and size.

Here is a transparent view of the initial mold design…  some of the design will eventually change so it’s easier to clamp.

…and then the actual 3 pieces of the printed mold ready to be injected.

The first injection turned out pretty well after clean up.  Not shown here but… (seen in the video) it did have quite a bit of flashing though that needed cleaning up.

The skirt tentacles turned out better than expected.

Hard to see but the spikes on top came out well too.

Even the suction cups on the front flippers came out.

I also designed a single cavity mold without the tentacles skirt for when I don’t want to do a lot of clean up.

This screen grab from the video shows some of those.

After that I went back and designed a 3 cavity mold also for when you really want to turn out some baits.

This one shot pretty clean with only minimal flashing.

The first batch.

I think these are going to be a perfect fit for the custom stand up jig heads I made awhile ago.

Here’s what they look like in the water on the jig heads.

As seen in the video I also have done some dual injection versions and next I also want to try a smaller version.

Open Pour Version

Just to try something different I cut the bottom off the bait to try an open pour version.

Here is first printed version of the open pour mold.

It’s not the easiest thing to pour with the under cuts of the front flippers but it worked ok.

The bottom.

It’s a lot skinnier and might be hard to rig but it might be good as a trailer on a jig or something like that.

To be continued…
