Lead Body Tail Spinner

STL’s for this lure are available for purchase from Cults3d.com

This is a little 1.25″ tail spinner that I am working on, the body is made from lead and the swivel is integrated into the body.  After making custom Jig Heads this was just something else I wanted to try for fun using the same process.

The rough drawing of the initial design.

Here it is in CAD. (I just noticed I forgot the fin.)

Three view of the tail spinner. The top yellow one is going to be a jig version for jigging vertically. (Might work for ice fishing?)

The master mold box in CAD containing one of each version.

Here is the final printed master mold box fresh off the printer before cleaning up the stringing.

Then we have the actual mold poured in Mold Max 60 high temp silicone. Don’t mind my crude wire forms these were just for the first test pour. If these work out I’ll print a wire forming jig.

Here are the first two test pours. They came out a little skinny but I’ll still throw a finish on them to test them out.

Most lures start with a first base coat of white.

After a little more simple paint work.

The finished tail spinner lure after adding some eyes, UV clear coat, a #10 hook, and the spinner blade tail.

The Jigging version was painted in a shad pattern and dressed with (2) #12 hooks.

The balance on the jigging version is spot on too.  Now I just need to get them in the water and see if they actually work.

After testing these out I figured I’d probably never use the Jig version so I added a swivel and smaller blade to the back of it too. Overall that version (top lure) will probably be better because the swivel can be changed if it needs to be where as the lure with the enclosed swivel would end up being thrown away if the swivel wears out.  If I make more they will all be the top version this way I don’t need to find the exact same swivels every time either.

A few others ones that I painted.

Added a few more to the family to test different blades.

These are a lot of fun to make so here’s a few more.  I tried paint have the blade on the red one to see if it would hold up, the other side is still chrome for flash.

To be Continued….
