Sawtooth Ribbon Tail Worm

Sawtooth Ribbon Tail Worm
This is just another crazy design that I am working on but it’s a work in progress at this point so things may change along the way. It’s a ribbon tail worm but the tail starts at the front of the bait running along the body before finishing in the ribbon tail. The finished bait is a little over 7 inches long.
As with most of my stuff the design started with a crude drawing on a piece of paper.
The design was then drafted up in CAD. Part of the craziness of this design is the little nubs on the teeth of the fins. I’m hoping these will act like a swim bait tail and flutter the teeth in opposite direction when the bait is moved through the water.
This was the first test mold design.
The first design of the mold had some issues. The gate at the front was to small which lead to denting, the tail was to thin, and the venting was to small. This lead to not being able to get a full injection. I even tried to widen the vent by heating up the tip of a screw driver and melting the mold to widen the vent but it didn’t work. After three unsuccessful injections it was back to the drawing board.
The best of the three… while rough was still fishable so I kept it for now.
Here you can see the little nubs on the teeth fins.
A few fixes in the design and it’s was ready for a second print. I printed both halves at my regular .10 layer height so the bait should be a little cleaner this time too.
So far so good… the first injection of the second mold came out pretty clean.
So much cleaner this time around… time for testing.
To be Continued….
