Shock Tail NED’s
STL’s for this lure are available for purchase from Cults3d.com
These are just some more weird NED type lures I’ve been working on that are kind of like stick baits but more grub like.
This is the original design that started out as more of a spring tail.
I started with a small single cavity design for the mold which required a tail core insert to for the spring.
This is how small that insert is… it was not easy to use and getting it just right in the mold was a PITA. (even with the little tab I designed into it.)
This is how it sits in the mold.
The finished baits came out pretty cool.
The simulated action (shaking the tub) looked pretty cool too.
While the action looked great, the fish (mainly bluegills) would bite that little tail off way to easy so I went back and shot a few without the insert to make the bait more durable. This tail version reminded of a car shock hence the name.
I redesigned the tail a bit after that and made a six cavity mold for it.
Here’s what that looks like in the tank.
Testing went well with a variety of fishing taking the bait. (of course the Johnny Roaches loved it)
But the Bass loved it too.
This one gobbled it up.
Even got a catfish on it.
Someone on Instagram mentioned a 1″ version would be great so I scaled it down to give that a try.
The first batch… these things are a lot smaller than I imagined.
Compared to a US Quarter.
… and here they are with their larger counterpart.
I tried to make a quick jig head with a split shot but didn’t have much luck while testing it. I was going to try the bottom one on a fly rod but haven’t gotten around to that yet.
I did end up finding some 1/64 oz Jig heads to try them with though…
…and the fish seemed to like them.
I was a little worried about that clip being almost as big as the bait but they didn’t care.
The perch liked them too. I’ll probably never really do any other fishing with these but I’ll be sending a bunch of these out to one of my IG followers to test during ice season.
