Whopper Crankbait

The Whopper Crankbait
I really liked how the body shape on the whopper plopper came out so I just took the body and extended it to make it into a crankbait. I also increased the size of the gills and eye sockets a little just to define them a bit more.
It’s the same design and construction I use on all my baits but this time I’m testing if figure 8 hook hangers will work for a crankbait. (Basically will the front tie on hold a tune.)
If it does work I’m also going to use this body to test different lip sizes and angles to see what changes affect what.
I’ve shown this before but for clear lips I start by tracing out the printed template on a piece of acrylic covered with blue painters tape and rough cutting it to size.
Next I super glue the template to the blue tape.
Then using some files I shape the acrylic to match the template.
After that I just pry off the template by carefully sticking a razor blade in between it and the acrylic piece.
The acrylic still has it’s protective film on it so the tape peels right off without any damage.
After removing the film I clean up the edges and beveling them a bit with 220 grit sand paper it’s ready to glue in place.
A drop or two of super glue in the lip slot will secure the lip to the lure. I’m going to test the action of this bait this time before I take the time to paint it just encase it doesn’t work as well as I hope.
