Mini Wire Spools

I use a lot of wire from recycled Cat5 cable in various projects I do so this is just a quick simple project to organize all of it.

I’ve had this big jumbled tangle of wire laying around for a while and it was a PITA to untangle it every time I needed a piece so it was time to rectify that problem.

I designed and printed these mini spools to organize it all.

The two halves of the spool simply get super glued together.

I also designed this winder to spool up the loose wire.

It just gets stuck on the end of a hex screwdriver bit in the Drill.

Next I just stick one end of the loose wire through a hole in the spool…

… then stick the spool on the drill and slowly wind it on using the drill while guiding the wire onto the spool with a finger.

The loose end is just stuck through one of the opening in the spool to hold it in place. The finished spools hold about 20-25 feet of 24 gauge wire.

Now every thing is nice and neat and easy to use.

Once the spools are wound I can trim off the inner end of the wire flush with the spool…

… and the spool can be stored on a piece of 1″ PVC pipe.
